Joshua James Amberson, author of recent collection of short fiction and short essays ‘Slow Motion Heroics,’ the previous personal essay collection ‘Everyday Mythologies’ will be reading from his new title ‘Writing Exercises (and various approaches to life on earth).’ (040) That title is actually the second in our new ‘ABOUT’ series, after Tom Cowan and Gary Lindorff’s ‘A Brightness Through The Trees’ (Conversations with Poetry)’ (039).
Sasha Moore, tattoo artist behind Hedgewitch Tattoo will be reading from her ‘ABOUT’ series title ‘Permanent Art On Temporary People: how to get a good tattoo, from concept to skin’ (041).
Our collaborative cassette series with Antiquated Future Records has just released two new career spanning compilations covering the music of Will Oldham as Palace Music and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy from 1992-2020.
Tapes can be purchased and the digital version of the albums listened to over at https://antiquatedfuture.bandcamp.com/
It has been a while since we shared updates about Selected Songs: since we last posted about them, we released volumes by Two White Cranes, Little Wings, and Christopher Sutton. So while you are over at the Antiquated Future page, check those out too!
Join us Monday, 30th May (yes, Memorial Day Itself) for the long-awaited first Two Plum Press reading since the Before Times.
Join us by Lake Washington at the Swimming Beach of Andrew’s Bay – meeting west of the entrance, near the Pottery Studio, for an afternoon with a bread ritual, other shared foods, readings, and a swim.
From the American Poetry Review
The American Poetry Review is happy to announce that this year’s APR/Honickman First Book Prize has been awarded to Chelsea Harlan for her manuscript Bright Shade, chosen by our guest judge, Jericho Brown. The book will be published in September 2022 and will be distributed by Copper Canyon Press through Consortium.
Chelsea Harlan was born and raised in Appalachia. She holds a BA in Literature and Visual Art from Bennington College, as well as an MFA in Poetry from Brooklyn College, where she was a Truman Capote Fellow and a Rose Goldstein Scholar, and where she has enjoyed teaching English and creative writing. Her chapbook Mummy, written in collaboration with London-based painter Daisy Parris, was released by Montez Press in 2019, and her chapbook Country Music was recently released from Two Plum Press. She received the 2021 Robert Watson Literary Award from The Greensboro Review for her poem “Some Sunlight,” and she received the 2019-2020 Mikrokosmos Poetry Prize for her poem “Grimaldo’s Chair,” selected by sam sax.
We received over 1,000 submissions for the prize this year and are very grateful to have read so many excellent poems.
