Two Plum Press publisher Andrew Barton’s debut cookbook. The Myrtlewood Cookbook is a collection of recipes and stories designed for the home cook, taking cues from the kitchen gardens and forest harvests of the Pacific Northwest.
This book was created independently. The dishes were shot in real time over the span of several seasons, in and around author Andrew Barton's rented apartment in Northeast Portland, OR. Photoshoots with photographer Peter Schweitzer and Kate Schweitzer (whose other work can be seen at Schweitzer Creative) were weekly or biweekly breakfast, lunch, or dinner gatherings.
The first edition's printing, done locally, was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign. See the campaign page to scope the progression from idea to physical object, and get a deeper sense of how the project came to be. The distribution was only to independent shops in select cities, mostly around the Northwest. This edition sold out within six months. Sasquatch Books picked up the title for a second edition, and it has now joined their growing, excellent list.
“Andrew Barton’s voice is warm and his food is beautiful. The sense of place—the ambiance—will draw you in and make you feel freshly appreciative of simple, everyday possibilities. In a world overflowing with cookbooks, this quiet gem stands out.”
—Mollie Katzen, author of the Moosewood Cookbook
