COLLECTED COFFEE BAGS – Andrew Barton
COLLECTED COFFEE BAGS – Andrew Barton
A tiny coffee table book, comprised of photographs of saved “for art” coffee bags and anecdotes – sometimes whole stories – about them. In the years since its release, this book has served as a surprisingly fascinating first-half-of-the-2010s time capsule for many Portland, OR coffee roasters – documenting a part of their history and showcasing the evolution of their graphic design.
Turning this hoarded stash of recyclables and trash into a clean and cheeky book was in part inspired by aspects of (my drawing and design professor in college) Mary Lum’s work, which is often about collecting the mundane and pointing out its beauty in the arrangement, in the storytelling.
What I could remember, what was significant to me then, what is strange and fun to peer back into now.
